Nevis Range Gondola

The Nevis Range Mountain Gondola, located near Fort William in the Scottish Highlands, offers a unique opportunity to ascend Aonach Mòr—the UK's eighth-highest mountain—effortlessly. Originally constructed to transport skiers, this gondola has become a year-round attraction, providing visitors with panoramic views and access to various mountain activities.​

Gondola Experience

The gondola transports visitors from 100 meters to 650 meters elevation, with each journey taking approximately 15 minutes. The system comprises 80 six-seat enclosed cabins running on a continuous 4.6 km steel cable. As you ascend, you'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the Scottish Highlands, including the Great Glen and Ben Nevis. ​

Suitability

The gondola is suitable for individuals of all ages and abilities. It's wheelchair accessible, with ramps accommodating chairs up to 60 cm wide. Additionally, well-behaved dogs are welcome to accompany their owners on the gondola free of charge.

Operating Hours

The gondola operates year-round, except for a maintenance closure from January 6 to February 5, 2025. Regular operating hours are from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Wednesday through Sunday, with the last gondola up at 3:45 PM and the last down at 4:00 PM. It's advisable to check the official website before your visit, as operations are weather-dependent. ​

Parking and Facilities

Ample parking is available on-site, with a daily charge of £5. Blue Badge holders can park for free. Facilities include accessible toilets at both the base and top stations, ensuring comfort for all visitors.

On-Site Amenities

  • Pinemarten Café (Base Station): Open daily from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, offering specialty coffees, teas, home baking, hot snacks, and main meals with daily specials. ​

  • Snowgoose Restaurant & Bar (Top Station): Serves delicious home cooking and fresh baking made from local produce. Visitors can also enjoy a local dram or freshly ground coffee from the bar. ​

Both venues provide stunning views, enhancing your dining experience amidst the Highland scenery.​

Activities at the Top Station

Upon reaching the top station, visitors can embark on two signposted walks leading to mountain viewpoints. On clear days, these vantage points offer expansive views extending to the Inner Hebrides. The area is also popular among mountain bikers and paragliders, with the gondola providing convenient access to downhill tracks and launch sites. ​
