Breakfast & brunch
No foodie guide is complete without a solid breakfast or brunch recommendation, and Glasgow has plenty of places to kickstart your day.
Single-end Café & Bakehouse
A well-known spot for locals, Single-end is one of my favourite places for brunch in Glasgow. There are two - one in Merchant City and the other in Garnethill. Both are quirky little spots with mismatched furniture, a laid-back vibe, and an emphasis on fresh, homemade food.
Their brunch menu is packed with both healthy and indulgent options. Think baked eggs, avocado toast, or their famous breakfast boards. Don’t leave without trying one of their cakes or pastries – they’re baked in-house and absolutely divine.
Café Strange Brew
Located in Shawlands, Café Strange Brew is another brunch heavyweight. This café has become famous for its creative takes on brunch classics. Their French toast is legendary, often topped with seasonal fruits, nuts, and syrups that will have you coming back for more.
For something savoury, try their huevos rancheros or smashed avocado with chorizo. The portions are hearty, and the flavours are always on point. Just be warned, it gets busy, so be prepared for a wait – but trust me, it’s worth it.
Wee Paree
Wee Paree in Glasgow is a charming, French-inspired café and bistro that brings a touch of Paris to the city's West End on Crow Road. Known for its cozy, intimate atmosphere and delicious menu, Wee Paree offers a delightful selection of freshly prepared dishes, from classic croque monsieurs to mouth-watering pastries and desserts. Their coffee is rich and expertly brewed, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely breakfast, brunch, or a relaxing afternoon break.
With its warm décor, friendly service, and authentic flavours, Wee Paree is a must-visit for anyone craving a taste of France in the heart of Glasgow. This is one of my absolute favourites. I have tried nearly everything on the menu!
Papercup Coffee Company
For top-tier coffee, Papercup is a Glasgow institution. This West End café on Great Western Road is small but mighty, with a serious focus on quality beans and expert brewing methods. Whether you’re into a flat white or a pour-over, Papercup delivers the perfect cup every time.
They also serve brunch, with everything from healthy granola to indulgent pancakes. The minimalist vibe and friendly staff make it the ideal spot for a mid-morning break.
Laboratorio Espresso
If you find yourself in the city centre and in need of a caffeine hit, head to Laboratorio Espresso, on West Nile Street in Glasgow. This sleek, modern café is all about precision and passion for coffee. They source beans from the best roasters around the world and offer a variety of brewing methods to suit your taste. Their espresso is strong and smooth, and they also offer pastries and sandwiches if you’re feeling peckish.
Meadow Road
Another West End gem, Meadow Road on Dumbarton Road combines great coffee with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. It’s a perfect spot to unwind, with cozy seating and a menu featuring everything from delicious soups and sandwiches to rich, creamy coffees. If you’re a fan of latte art, the baristas here won’t disappoint!
Lunch
When it comes to lunch, Glasgow’s options are endless. From hearty pub fare to fresh, healthy bowls, you’ll be spoiled for choice.
The Gannet
For something a little more upscale, The Gannet is one of the best restaurants in Glasgow, offering a modern take on traditional Scottish cuisine. Located in the Finnieston area, this Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant is known for using local, seasonal ingredients to create innovative dishes. Their lunch menu is a fantastic way to experience fine dining at a reasonable price. Expect dishes like venison, seafood, and perfectly cooked vegetables that showcase the best of Scottish produce. If you can, go for the tasting menu – it’s a journey through Scottish flavours that you won’t forget.
Ocho
This one is often overlooked due to its slightly hidden location. But it is one of my favourites for breakfast or lunch.
It’s a stylish restaurant located along the scenic canal in Glasgow's Speirs Wharf. Known for its warm atmosphere and modern, relaxed vibe, Ocho serves a diverse menu of contemporary dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The menu offers something for everyone, from hearty classics to inventive vegan and vegetarian options. With its picturesque location, excellent service, and well-crafted dishes, Ocho is a hidden gem perfect for casual dining, special occasions, or a relaxing meal by the water.
Paesano Pizza
If you’re in the mood for pizza, Paesano Pizza in the city centre is the place to go. Serving up authentic Neapolitan-style pizza, Paesano focuses on simple, high-quality ingredients cooked to perfection in a wood-fired oven. The result? Delicious, crispy, and slightly charred pizza with toppings like buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, and basil. The casual vibe, affordable prices, and fantastic food make this a go-to spot for pizza lovers.

Three of these awesome places in Glasgow, Tubbees is a paradise for anyone with a sweet tooth, offering an exciting range of over-the-top, indulgent desserts. Famous for their unique bubble teas and extravagant soft-serve ice cream creations, Tubbees is a go-to spot for both locals and visitors looking for a sugar fix. Their signature desserts include giant freakshakes, loaded waffles, and innovative ice cream flavors served with an array of toppings, from candy to sauces. The vibrant, fun atmosphere adds to the experience, making it a perfect stop for those craving something sweet and adventurous in the city.
Dinner: The main event
After a full day of exploring Glasgow’s food scene, it’s time to settle in for dinner. The city has a fantastic range of restaurants that cater to every taste, whether you’re after traditional Scottish fare or something more exotic.
Ox and Finch
One of Glasgow’s most popular restaurants, Ox and Finch in Finnieston offers a modern, tapas-style dining experience with dishes designed to be shared. The menu changes regularly and features a mix of Scottish and Mediterranean influences. Think dishes like crispy pork belly with spiced apple and celeriac, or roast beetroot with goats’ curd and hazelnuts. The small plates mean you can try a bit of everything, and the atmosphere is always lively and welcoming.
Stravaigin
For a taste of Scotland with a twist, Stravaigin, Gibson Street, is a fantastic option. Their motto is "think global, eat local," and their menu reflects that, combining Scottish ingredients with international flavours. Dishes range from Scottish classics like haggis, neeps, and tatties to Asian-inspired creations. The food is creative, the portions are generous, and the staff are incredibly friendly. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over dinner and feel right at home.
The Ubiquitous Chip
No foodie guide to Glasgow would be complete without mentioning The Ubiquitous Chip, in Ashton Lane.
This iconic restaurant has been a staple of the city’s dining scene since 1971 and continues to wow diners with its innovative take on Scottish cuisine. Located in a beautiful, leafy courtyard in the West End, The Chip offers an unforgettable dining experience. Their menu focuses on high-quality Scottish ingredients, with dishes like venison, seafood, and game taking centre stage. It’s the perfect spot for a special night out, offering both a restaurant and brasserie option depending on your budget.

Even after dinner, Glasgow’s food scene doesn’t stop. Whether you’re out enjoying the city’s nightlife or just fancy a snack before heading back to your hotel, there are plenty of late-night eats to satisfy your cravings.

For something a bit different, Bloc+ is a quirky bar that serves up comfort food late into the night. They’re known for their creative take on pub classics, with dishes like mac and cheese toasties, hot dogs, and nachos. They also have a great selection of craft beers, making it a perfect spot to wind down after a busy day of eating.
