In Your Element Scotland - Outdoor Adventures Across the Highlands

If you’re chasing adrenaline, nature and unforgettable experiences, In Your Element (IYE Scotland) is your go-to for outdoor activity thrills across the Scottish Highlands and beyond. Operating since about 2003, IYE delivers adventure in locations like Inverness & Loch Ness, Aviemore & the Cairngorms, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs, Loch Tay, Fort William, and Argyll.

They’re not tied to one fixed site - many of their activity locations are mobile, and they also run tailor-made private group bookings.

Here’s what they offer, plus tips, highlights and what to expect.

Activities & Experiences

IYE’s activity portfolio is broad. Whether you’re with family, friends, a school group, stag/hen party or corporate team, there’s something for you. Below are key experiences you can book.

Water & Paddle Adventures

  • Canoeing (open canoe & sea kayak) - explore lochs, rivers or coastal waters, often led by guides.

  • Kayak hire & outfitting - you can hire equipment, sometimes with shuttle or support services.

  • River sledging & whitewater adventures - splash through rapids, controlled but thrilling.

  • Gorge walking / canyoning - scramble through rock, swim across deep pools, walk beneath waterfalls.

Land & Skill-based Activities

  • Mountain biking & bike hire - At Aviemore (Rothiemurchus hub) they have hire services for all abilities.

  • Archery, abseiling, climbing, weaselling - classic outdoor skills for skill & thrill.

  • Highland games / team challenges / mini Highland games - ideal for groups looking for fun competition.

  • TreeZone / aerial adventure courses - via their Aviemore base (in conjunction with TreeZone) for climbing, ropes courses etc.

  • Guided walks, nature & seasonal walks - from autumn through spring, curated walks with guides, hot drink & snack sometimes included.

Tailor-Made & Group Booking Options

Beyond their scheduled public events, IYE offers bespoke group activities. Whether for school groups, corporate days, stag/hen parties, or families, they’ll adapt location, mix of activities, difficulty level and scheduling.

They also serve as one of Scotland’s larger canoe/boat hire & outfitting companies - with shuttles, pick-ups, gear and support options.

Where They Operate & Scheduling

Because IYE is mobile and regionally spread, they run scheduled activites at bases (during holiday periods and selected dates) and on-demand custom bookings.

Key base regions include:

  • Inverness & Loch Ness - guided canoe trips, kayaking, etc.

  • Aviemore & the Cairngorms - bike hire, TreeZone, multi-activity days.

  • Loch Tay / Perthshire - archery, canoeing, gorge walking, Katakanu / paddle boarding.

  • Loch Lomond & the Trossachs - scheduled and custom outdoor adventures.

Note: At their Inverness base, they do not run activities on-site - it is more an administrative/base headquarters.

What Makes In Your Element Special

  • Versatility & mobility - they can come to you (within Scotland) for group events, rather than limiting you to one fixed site.

  • Wide activity variety - from water sports to archery, aerial courses to team challenges, they cover many outdoor interests.

  • Support infrastructure - they offer gear, shuttles, outfitting, and logistical backup for multi-day or complex activities.

  • Group & educational offerings - school programmes, youth groups, corporate days, stag/hen parties.

  • Booking & planning support - their office team helps you dial in the right mix of experiences.

Tips & Things to Know Before You Book

  • Book early, especially in summer or holiday periods - public scheduled days can fill up.

  • Check minimum ages, fitness requirements, and whether swims or scrambling are involved (for gorge walks, etc.).

  • Bring suitable clothing (wetsuits, quick-dry layers, walking shoes) - many activities are wet or rugged.

  • For bespoke group bookings, you can often negotiate location, mix of activities, timing.

  • Confirm availability of gear and shuttle support when doing multi-site or river/loch adventures.

  • Always check IYE’s website for the latest schedule, offerings and contact information.
