Cocoa Mountain, Dornoch

Right in the heart of Dornoch’s high street, Cocoa Mountain Dornoch is a dream stop for anyone exploring the North Coast 500 or simply craving something sweet. Famous for serving the best hot chocolate in Scotland, this little Highland café has earned a loyal following of locals and travellers alike. Step inside and you’re greeted by the smell of melted chocolate and freshly ground coffee, plus shelves stacked with handmade truffles, artisan chocolate bars, and beautifully wrapped gifts that make perfect souvenirs from the Scottish Highlands.

Everything at Cocoa Mountain is made with care, using ethically sourced cocoa and natural ingredients. You can sit in for a rich hot chocolate piled high with cream and chocolate drizzle, or take one to go and enjoy it on nearby Dornoch Beach. There’s also a tempting selection of locally roasted coffees, teas, and home baking - but few visitors can resist the signature Cocoa Mountain hot chocolate, known across Scotland for its silky texture and deep flavour.

Cocoa Mountain began in Balnakeil near Durness and now brings its artisan chocolate to the east coast, capturing that same Highland charm in the heart of Dornoch. Warm, welcoming, and proudly independent, this café is a must-visit stop on any NC500 food trail.
