Lochinver Larder
Iconic pie stop on the NC500
Anyone who’s driven the west coast of the NC500 has heard about Lochinver Larder. This small spot on the edge of Loch Inver has become famous for one thing: pies. Not just ordinary pies - deeply filled, buttery-crusted, “pull-over-the-car” pies. Sit in with a view across the water or grab a takeaway for the road. Either way, it’s a rite of passage for anyone exploring Assynt.
About Lochinver Larder
Right in the heart of Lochinver, this pie shop and café has been feeding hungry travellers for decades. It’s an easy walk from the harbour and a natural stop if you’re making your way north from Ullapool or heading towards Drumbeg, Stoer or Kylesku.
The star attraction is the huge line-up of handmade pies. There’s everything from venison and cranberry to steak and ale, macaroni cheese, chicken and ham, plus vegetarian and vegan options. Sweet pies are also a thing here, think apple crumble pie or chocolate and cherry.
The café has indoor seating with loch views, or you can order pies ready to eat, takeaway, or even frozen to fill your holiday cottage freezer.
Why visitors love it
• Massive choice of savoury and sweet pies, all handmade
• Great location overlooking Loch Inver
• Quick stop for takeaway or relaxed sit-in option
• Vegan and vegetarian pies available
• Family-friendly
Food & drink
Savoury pies come packed with fillings - beef, venison, chicken, haggis, smoked fish, vegetables and more. Vegetarian and vegan pies are just as inventive. Sweet pies are equally tempting, especially if you’ve just tackled the Drumbeg Loop and deserve a treat.
Alongside pies, you’ll find sides, hot drinks, cold drinks and simple desserts. Portions are generous and the pies hold their heat well if you’re taking them out on the road.
