The one you can park at

A flat in the middle of Inverness usually comes with a parking problem, and May Court is the Ness Accommodation answer to it. It has free parking on the premises, in the courtyard it sits off, and the owners put it plainly: park the car and forget about it until you leave. Their other apartment, Shore Street, is out at the harbour with free street parking and nothing on site.

The walk is the other half of that trade. The owners give 30 seconds to the city centre shops and restaurants, five minutes to the rail and bus stations, and a supermarket across the street.

Inside it is the older of the two, up a small flight of stairs from the courtyard, with high ceilings and an original decorative fireplace in the living room. The kitchen is its own room rather than a corner of the living space, with a dishwasher as well as a washing machine, which is why the owners point this flat at longer stays. The bedrooms are a double with a dressing table and a twin with bunk beds, and the bathroom is a compact shower room.

The courtyard is worth knowing about. The owners say the other residents have been there many years and are mostly elderly, and ask guests to treat them accordingly.

May Court sits beside the River Ness in the middle of Inverness. The castle, the cathedral, and the riverside islands are in the middle of town with it, and the stations are the five minute walk the owners describe, so this is one of the few flats here you can reach and use without a car.

For everything outside the city the owners give two figures of their own: eight miles to Loch Ness, and ten to the airport. Culloden battlefield is signposted off the B9006 out of town.
