Six beds and one bathroom
The living area and the dining table share the same wall of glass, and that glass faces the water. Both bedrooms have king beds. The fifth and sixth places are a double sofa bed in the living room, so two of your party sleep in the room everyone else is sitting in, and all six share one bathroom. That is the thing to settle before you book for a full house.
Outside there is decking with furniture on it, an outdoor grill, and a hot tub set to face the harbour. Parking is free and private at the front, with room the owners say will take up to six cars, which suits two or three couples arriving separately.
The kitchen is fitted for a proper week rather than a night, with an oven, a hob, a fridge, a freezer, a toaster, a kettle, a coffee maker, and wine glasses, plus a washing machine and a drying rack for wet coats.
Good to know
- A £90 cleaning fee is added on top of the nightly rate, so a short stay carries it as a larger share of the total.
- The hot tub comes with a written set of rules. Shower before you get in, keep each session to about 15 minutes, keep food and glass out of the water, and stay out after alcohol.
- Children in the hot tub need an adult watching them throughout, and the owners ask that nobody wearing fake tan uses it.
- Anyone who is pregnant, has high blood pressure, or has a history of skin irritation is asked not to use the hot tub at all.
- Smoking is not allowed inside.
- Booking is through the owners' own system rather than a listing site, where the house carries a 4.90 guest rating.

Portpatrick is the harbour village on the Rhins, the hammerhead peninsula that forms the western edge of Dumfries and Galloway and points at Ireland rather than at the rest of Scotland. The owners put the harbour, the pubs, and the cliff walks within a short distance of the door. They do not publish drive times, so treat anything further off as a proper outing. The Mull of Galloway, Logan Botanic Garden, and the Cairnryan ferries all sit on this same peninsula.
The far side of the region is a long way east, but that is where Caerlaverock Castle and its moat sit. Going north instead, the A77 runs up the coast into Ayrshire.
