Twelve square metres, and a hot tub on the riverbank

A RiverBed is small on purpose. Each one is a single timber room on a raised boardwalk above the water, with a round window into the trees, a Simba hybrid mattress under Egyptian cotton sheets, an en suite wet room, and a galley kitchen along one wall. The operator is candid about what 12 square metres means: its own FAQ says you alongside two deerhounds might find it tight.

What the footprint buys is the veranda and the sunken hot tub on it, private to your lodge rather than shared. It runs at 37.5 degrees continuously, so it is warm on arrival rather than something to light or fill. The kitchen is for heating and snacks rather than cooking, which the operator states plainly, and the estate answers that with a food truck and bar and a clubhouse restaurant.

The twelve are not identical, and the difference is worth knowing before you pick a number.

The estate is at Ballachulish, at the mouth of Glencoe, where Loch Leven meets Loch Linnhe. Woodlands gives Glasgow as a two hour drive. The rest is walkable from the boardwalk: a nine hole golf course, an activity centre running e-bikes, Segways, archery, and axe throwing, and the hilltop Wilderness Sauna with a cold plunge pool. There is no swimming pool on the estate. The Wilderness Sauna and its cold plunge pool are the wellness offer here, booked and paid for separately rather than included, and the Isles of Glencoe up the road has the nearest hotel pool.
