Craiglea Barn
from £230.00 Per night*
Craiglea Lodge, Latheron Wheel, Latheron, Caithness, KW5 6DW
T: +44(0)208 731 1920
One open room, and no group to share it with
The Barn is the end of the Craiglea building that gets let on its own. Where the Lodge is two cottages joined together for a party of up to 14, the Barn is a single open-plan space with the kitchen, the dining table and the sitting area all in one room, and two bedrooms off it. That suits four to six people who want the estate without taking it over, and it is the cheapest way to put a family on this stretch of the A9.
The two bedrooms are twins, one with an en suite, and there is a family bathroom alongside. The kitchen is modern and fitted, with a washing machine and a tumble dryer. Towels, bed linen and toiletries are provided, and the parking is off road.
The thing to be clear about before booking is the pool. The heated indoor pool, the jacuzzi and the sauna belong to a Lodge booking, or to a booking of the Lodge and Barn together, and a Barn booking on its own does not include them. The pods do not include them either.

Location
Where it puts you
Latheronwheel sits on the A9 between Helmsdale and Wick, on the east coast run of the North Coast 500. The owners put John O'Groats about 30 miles north and Inverness Airport at roughly two hours and 150km by road.
Whaligoe Steps, the flight of stone steps down a cleft in the cliff to an old herring harbour, is the walk the owners name first, and it is a few miles up the same road. Closer still is the Fairy Glen in Latheronwheel. Wick, twenty minutes north, has Old Pulteney distillery and the harbour, and the beaches at Sinclair's Bay open out beyond it.

Castle Sinclair Girnigoe
A ruin on a spine of rock north of Wick, up the coast from Latheronwheel.
