Two pods, two decks, two front doors
Bromach and Byrnside are the newer end of Craiglea, and the part that is not attached to anything. Each pod is a separate building with its own deck and outdoor seating, so two households can book one each and share the estate without sharing a wall or a kitchen. Booked together they take up to 12 people, which is a different proposition from the Lodge, where 14 people are inside one set of connecting cottages.
Inside, each pod has two double bedrooms, a sofa bed in the lounge for the fifth and sixth, and a modern fitted kitchen with a dishwasher. Bromach has an extra toilet on top of its family bathroom, which is the one meaningful difference between the two. Towels and bed linen are provided in both, and the parking is off road.
What a pod booking does not carry is the leisure building. The pool, the jacuzzi and the sauna go with a Lodge booking, and neither the pods nor the Barn include them.
“These spacious pods which sleep up to 6 people are modern, comfortable and feel secluded. The pods were immaculate and having a fully equipped kitchen was a bonus as we cooked every evening.”

- Check in is from 4.30pm and check out is by 10am, which is earlier than most self-catering.
- Bromach has a second toilet; Byrnside has the family bathroom only.
- The sixth bed is a sofa bed in the lounge, so six is tight for six adults.
- Pets are permitted with the owner's agreement rather than by default, so ask when you book.

Location
Where it puts you
The pods are on the A9 at Latheronwheel, on the east coast leg of the North Coast 500 between Helmsdale and Wick. The owners give John O'Groats as about 30 miles north and Inverness Airport as roughly two hours and 150km by road, and there is a what3words address for the entrance if the satnav gives up.
Walks come first here. The owners name Whaligoe Steps, the Fairy Glen at Latheronwheel and the Berriedale footbridge and braes, all within a short drive, with Reiss Beach on Sinclair's Bay further north. Dunrobin Castle at Golspie is the big set piece on the drive down, and Old Pulteney in Wick is the distillery.

Frequently asked questions
How many pods are there?
Two, Bromach and Byrnside, and they are let separately.
What is the difference between them?
Bromach has an extra toilet in addition to its family bathroom. Byrnside has the family bathroom on its own. Otherwise they are the same size and layout.
Can we book both?
Yes, which takes the group to about 12 people in two separate buildings.
Do pod guests get the swimming pool?
No. The owners keep the pool, jacuzzi and sauna for guests who book the Lodge, or the Lodge and the Barn together.
Is there a dishwasher?
Yes, in both pods. It is the only kitchen at Craiglea the owners list one in.
Are dogs allowed?
Pets are permitted with the owner's agreement, so raise it at the time of booking.
