Loch Ness Escapes - Middleton Farmhouse

The one that sleeps six, with a fence round the garden

Middleton Farmhouse is the largest of the three properties Loch Ness Escapes run at Lochend, and the one built for a group. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms take six, every bedroom looks out over water, and the sitting room has a wood burner and a view across the farmhouse's own small lochan towards Loch Ness beyond it.

What makes it work with children or dogs is the garden. It is large and it is fully enclosed, which the waterfront cottage down the road is not. There is a fire pit, a BBQ terrace, an outdoor table, the wood-fired hot tub, and a barn with a table tennis table for the days the weather decides otherwise.

Lochend Beach on Loch Ness is a couple of minutes away rather than at the end of the lawn, which is the trade against Church Cottage. In exchange you get the space, the fence and two more beds.

Lochend is at the Inverness end of Loch Ness, and the farmhouse sits back from it in its own ground. Lochend Beach is a short walk, and boat trips onto the loch leave from Dochgarroch Locks a few minutes down the road, where the Caledonian Canal towpath also makes a flat, easy walk or cycle.

Further out, Urquhart Castle is around half an hour down the west shore, Culloden battlefield twenty minutes the other way, and Abriachan Forest has a network of trails on the hill above the loch. Inverness is ten minutes, and the Loch Ness page has the rest of the loch.
