Two lodges, and one of the few farms in Scotland that takes your horse

Logie Newton is a working farm of 750 acres between Huntly, Inverurie and Turriff, and the two lodges sit on it facing south towards Bennachie. Both have a private hot tub, a BBQ fire pit, a fenced garden and an outdoor wash bay for muddy boots, dogs, bikes and golf clubs. Entry is by lockbox, so arriving does not depend on meeting anyone.

What makes the place unusual is the second half of what it offers. Dogs get an enclosed private garden and a separate secure dog park on the farm, booked free of charge, which is the detail that matters if your dog is reactive or you are travelling with more than one. Horses get four stables, individual paddocks in front of the lodges, and 10km of grass tracks through native woodland. Plenty of Scottish lets do one of those; very few do both.

Good to know

  • Check in is 4pm, check out is 10am, and neither moves. A late departure is charged as another day.
  • Dogs are £30 per dog per visit and must be house trained. Ask first about bringing more than the lodge allows.
  • Dogs stay on the lead everywhere except inside the secure dog enclosure.
  • The hot tubs run from 8am to 10pm, with no glass and no alcohol in them.
  • Horse facilities run April to September. Outside that the tracks and fields may not be usable, so speak to the farm first.
  • No smoking anywhere on the site, the decking and stable area included.
  • A 50% deposit is taken at booking, with the balance due 42 days before arrival.

Where it puts you

The farm lies between Huntly, Inverurie and Turriff, which the owners put at 30 miles north west of Aberdeen. Bennachie, the hill the lodges face, is the one the north east grows up walking, and there are 10km of private grass tracks on the farm before you go near a public road.

This is castle and whisky country, with Speyside to the west and the Moray Firth coast to the north. The Aberdeenshire explorers is a reasonable place to start on the rest of the county.

Frequently asked questions

What time is check in?

Four in the afternoon, and check out is ten in the morning. Neither can be moved, and leaving late is charged as an extra day.

Can we bring our own horse?

Yes. Four stables with tack room access, individual post and rail paddocks in front of the lodges, horsebox parking, and a 24m by 45m all-weather arena on request. This runs April to September.

Where can we ride?

On 10km of grass tracks through native woodland. Hay, haylage and bedding can be bought on site, and mucking out tools are provided.

What is in the dog hamper?

Bowls, treats, towels, throws, poo bags, and shampoo and spray, plus the owners' own guide to dog-friendly places nearby.

Is there a shop nearby?

Nothing within walking distance. Thorneybank farm shop is about a mile and a half away and the nearest grocery shop is at Rothienorman, about five and a half miles. Deliveries can be arranged for a 3pm to 4pm arrival, with 48 hours' notice.

Can we charge an electric car?

Yes, on a communal charger billed per kWh. Bring your own cable, and use only that point.

Is there a sauna?

Yes, a wood-fired sauna with a cold plunge, run for six weekends between October and March and booked separately. It is for over 16s.
