Five huts on a livery yard
Braidlaw sits on the A766 Carlops road out of Penicuik, on the eastern shoulder of the Pentland Hills. The five huts are set apart from each other around a working livery yard, so what you look at from your own patch of ground is fields and hills rather than the hut next door.
The outdoor area is where each one earns its money: a wood-fired hot tub, lounge chairs, a fire pit, a picnic table and a barbecue, with logs and firelighters provided. Wood fired means the tub wants lighting a good while before you want to be sitting in it, which is worth knowing on arrival rather than at nine at night.
Inside, every hut has underfloor heating, an ensuite shower room and a kitchen, with bedding and towels already on the bed. What differs is the bed layout, the size of the tub and the hills you face.

Good to know
- Check in is self service from 4pm using a keysafe, and check out is 10am. Earlier or later costs extra.
- One night is enough midweek. Weekends need two, and peak dates more.
- The kitchen has a hob, a microwave, a fridge, a kettle and a toaster. There is no oven.
- Up to two well behaved dogs per hut, on a lead outside except in the dog exercise area.
- Parking is one space per hut, with more on request. Electric car charging is on site, billed separately.
- Tea, coffee, sugar, seasoning, olive oil and washing up liquid are provided, with fresh milk in the fridge.
- Wifi is free across the site, though the owners are straight about rural speeds.
- Hen and stag parties are not taken.

The Pentland Hills Regional Park runs south west from the door, so the walking and the mountain biking start on the hill rather than at a car park you have to drive to. Penicuik has the shops, and the Moorfoots are the range across the valley to the south east.

Does every hut have its own hot tub?
Yes, a private wood-fired one in its own outdoor area. The Connemara and Highland huts have a four person tub, the Shetland a LuvTub for two.
Can you bring a dog?
Up to two well behaved dogs per hut. They need to be on a lead outside, apart from in the dedicated dog exercise area.
What are the check in and check out times?
Self check in from 4pm with a keysafe, and out by 10am. Earlier arrival or a later departure can be arranged for a fee.
Is there a minimum stay?
Two nights at weekends and one midweek, though that can change over peak dates.
