Pine Bank Chalets

Nine lodges, two grades, one wood

Pine Bank is a site of fifteen lodges under the pines at Dalfaber, a few minutes' walk from Aviemore village along the river path, and this page covers the nine that sleep two or four. They are handbuilt in log rather than clad to look like it, and they divide into two grades that are worth understanding before you book.

Superior lodges have a wood burning stove, a full kitchen and a modern bathroom. Luxury lodges have all of that plus a private sauna, underfloor heating and a heavier specification throughout. In a place where the weather decides your day about as often as your plans do, the difference is what the lodge is like at four in the afternoon when it has started raining.

Aviemore is the practical centre of the Cairngorms, and the site is on the quiet side of it, between the village and the golf course. The Speyside Way runs past, and the walk into the village along the river takes about fifteen minutes.

Cairngorm Mountain is up the ski road at Glenmore, for the snow in winter and the funicular and the ridge walks the rest of the year. Loch an Eilein and the Rothiemurchus pines are the other direction, and are the best short walk in the area by some distance. Landmark Forest Adventure Park at Carrbridge and the Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig cover the wet days.
