The inn at the end of the Aonach Eagach
Clachaig is not a hotel that happens to be near the hills. It sits on the old road through the glen, and the traverse of the Aonach Eagach, which the inn's own route notes call the classic outing here, comes off the ridge onto that road and finishes at the door. The Boots Bar fills with hillwalkers, skiers, kayakers, and climbers, and the Bidean Lounge has signed photographs from well known climbers and old ice axes on the walls.
The 23 bedrooms sit across three wings and are all en-suite, in single, twin, double, and family sizes sleeping up to four. Each has tea and coffee making facilities and a flat screen television, and many look out at the Glencoe mountains.
Three bars rather than one matters more than it sounds, because a climbing club and a family with a seven year old can both have a good evening without troubling each other.

Good to know
- Rooms are ready from 4pm and check out is by 10.30am.
- Reception opens at 8am and closes at 9pm. Tell them if you will be later and they will take you up to midnight.
- Dog rooms cannot be booked online. Go through reception. One dog per room, and no other pets.
- You have to be 18 to be in the Boots Bar or the Snug. Under 18s are welcome in the Bidean Lounge until 10pm, and there is a play area outside it.
- The bars serve until 11pm, and midnight on Fridays. The Bidean Wing rooms are above the lounge.
- Every bedroom is non-smoking, and vaping is not permitted anywhere in the inn.

Location
Where it puts you
The inn is inside Glencoe rather than near it, on the old road below the mountains, so the walking starts where you park. Glencoe Lochan north of the village has flat woodland loops around a small loch for a rest day, and the Glencoe Visitor Centre off the A82 has the National Trust for Scotland exhibition on the glen.
Glencoe Mountain has the skiing in winter and the chairlift in summer, and Fort William is half an hour north on the A82.

Frequently asked questions
What time is check in and check out?
Rooms are ready from 4pm and check out is by 10.30am. Reception is open from 8am until 9pm, and a later arrival is fine up to midnight if you tell them.
Which rooms take dogs?
Five rooms in the Lodge, one dog to a room, booked through reception rather than online. The bars are dog friendly as well.
Are there rooms with a bath?
Yes, in the Ossian Wing. Every other room has an en-suite shower.
Can children go in the bars?
In the Bidean Lounge, until 10pm, and there is a play area outside. The Boots Bar and the Snug are over 18s only.
Is there self catering as well?
Not at the inn. The same family runs Clachaig Holidays: twelve cottages, chalets, and lodges around Glencoe and Ballachulish, sleeping four to nine.
Can you get here without a car?
The nearest railway station is Fort William. Citylink coaches run through Glencoe, and Shiel Buses cover the local villages.
What is behind the bar?
Cask ales, more than 400 malt whiskies, and Scottish gins, with live music on regularly.
