A Scandinavian-inspired couples retreat in the Angus countryside
Set into the hillside at Guthrie, Anika Retreats is a luxury rural escape created around slow stays, wellness and the landscape of Angus. Its first retreat, Lund, sleeps two and looks east across the Lunan Valley, with large windows positioned to make the changing light and countryside part of the experience.
Inside, the design is clean and contemporary rather than traditionally rustic. Natural timber, neutral colours and carefully chosen darker tones sit alongside a wood-burning stove, fully equipped kitchen and bedroom with a freestanding bath. Outside is one of Lund's standout features: a private copper bath that can be filled for a hot soak beneath the open sky or used cold for a morning plunge.
Anika is also being developed as a wider wellness retreat. Private sauna facilities are planned from December 2026, while bookable wellness treatments, local food experiences and guided Angus tours form part of the longer-term experience.

Where it puts you
Anika sits between the Lunan and Strathmore Valleys, which makes it a useful base for seeing a side of Angus that often gets overlooked between the Cairngorms and the east coast.
Arbroath is fifteen minutes south for the abbey and the smokies, and Dundee with the V&A is about forty minutes. This is the least travelled stretch of the Angus coast and the better for it.
Scotland's whisky distilleries
A fantastic distillery where you can book a tour for whisky or gin, and enjoy a fabulous lunch in the cafe.
