Eriskay is a house on a lane rather than a small hotel. Ken and Gill came here from South Africa, both with Scottish roots, and they let three rooms in their own home alongside four pods in the garden, which puts the address on the glamping list as much as the bed and breakfast one. The setting is not what a central Aviemore address suggests: the house sits second along a lane off Craig-Na-Gower Avenue, behind a high hedge, a few minutes walk from the pubs, restaurants, shops, and station.

The three house rooms are en-suite and heated, decorated in what the owners call an AfriScot style, with a hospitality tray, a Freeview television, and free fibre wifi. What matters before you book is that they are sold room only. Breakfast is a paid extra rather than part of the price, and it is served in the communal guest lounge between 8am and 9am.

House guests and pod guests share the same ground: a guest lounge, a barbecue area, an outdoor fireplace, and a bothy with a convection microwave, a fridge freezer, crockery, cutlery, and a table to eat at. Their own booking system carries 345 reviews at 4.9 out of five.

Eriskay is in the middle of the town rather than out on the approach roads. The owners put the railway station about ten minutes away on foot, will collect guests by arrangement, and note that the buses for the ski slopes go from round the corner. That makes this one of the few places in Aviemore you can use without a car at all.

The Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig and Landmark Forest Adventure at Carrbridge sit on the same corridor, and the owners' own list of what people come here for runs to bird watching, climbing, hill walking, fishing, biking, water sports on Loch Insh or Loch Morlich, and skiing.
