The older of the two cottages on the estate
Glendoe is a working Highland estate on the south shore of Loch Ness, in the same family for more than fifty years, and Lower Glendoe Cottage is the traditional house on it. It came out of a restoration in 2025, so the fabric is old and everything you touch is not.
Both first floor bedrooms have a king sized bed, built in wardrobes, and windows that look along the loch and over the garden. The bunk room is downstairs, and the singles in it are full sized rather than child sized, which is the difference between a room for two ten year olds and one for two adults. The ground floor is otherwise one open room: the kitchen at one end, and at the other the wood burner, the sofas, and a smart TV carrying streaming services and Sky Stream. French doors open into the enclosed garden.
Choosing between Lower Glendoe and Kilchuimen
The same family lets Kilchuimen House on the same estate. It was built in 2019, sleeps eight in four zip and link king rooms, and has an upstairs sitting room behind a glass fronted balcony over the water.

- Arrival is from 4pm and departure by 10am, unless the owners agree other times in writing.
- Dogs come only with the owners' consent, arranged before you book, and there is a charge. This is not an automatic yes, so ask early.
- Six is the maximum, and extra guests need written agreement.

- A refundable security deposit is preauthorised on a card and held until five days after you leave.

Where it puts you
Fort Augustus sits at the south western end of Loch Ness, where the Caledonian Canal drops through its lock flight into the water, and the owners describe both estate cottages as within walking distance of the village. That gets you the shops, the pubs, the canal side, and the boat trips without moving the car.
Urquhart Castle is up the busy north western shore, and its car park has to be booked online in advance. The better half of that day is the road back, down the quiet south side on single track B roads through Foyers and Dores. South of the village the A82 runs the length of the Great Glen to Fort William and Ben Nevis.

What time is check in and check out?
Arrival is from 4pm and departure is by 10am, unless the owners have agreed other times in writing.
Can we bring a dog?
Only with the owners' consent, arranged before you book, and a charge applies. The garden is fully enclosed, which is the part that matters once the dog is out of the car.
Is the bunk room only for children?
No. It is on the ground floor and the owners describe the single beds as full sized, so adults fit in them.
Can the two first floor bedrooms be made up as twins?
The cottage's own page labels both rooms twin or double and then describes a king sized bed in each, so ask the owners to confirm how they will be made up before you travel.
What is in the kitchen?
An electric cooker, an induction hob, a fridge freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave, a toaster, and a kettle, with tableware for eight.
How does payment work?
Half the hire cost confirms the booking and the balance is due sixty days before arrival. Book inside sixty days and the full amount is payable at once. A refundable security deposit is preauthorised on a card and released five days after departure.
What happens if we cancel?
More than sixty days out the owners retain half the cost. Inside sixty days they retain all of it, and refund only once the dates are resold.
