The one with the fire, the kitchen and two dogs
Sweetheart Cottage shares its ground with four cabins and is the odd one out on it, in the ways that matter for a longer stay. It is a cottage, so there is a proper kitchen rather than a kitchenette, a washing machine, and an open fireplace to sit in front of when the weather in upper Donside does what upper Donside does.
The hot tub is its own thing here. Rather than a tub on a deck, it lives in the Love Shack, a separate building with a sofa and a music system, which means it works in February as well as June and you are not making the dash back to the door in a towel.
It sleeps two on a king bed, and it takes up to two dogs, where the cabins take one and one of them takes none. Between that, the fire and the kitchen, this is the one to book for a week rather than a weekend.

Where it puts you
Strathdon is on the SnowRoads, the road that crosses from Deeside to Speyside over the Lecht at the highest point of any public road in Britain. Corgarff Castle, a white tower ringed by a star-shaped wall, is a few miles up the glen and is worth the stop even if you only look at it from the road.
Over the hill on Deeside are Balmoral, Ballater and Braemar, with the Linn of Dee and the Cairngorm plateau beyond. North is Glenlivet and the start of Speyside. It is a good place to be if you want the Cairngorms without Aviemore.
