You’ll likely spot red squirrels in the trees and ospreys overhead before you even step out to the water’s edge. It’s quiet. It’s secluded. And it’s a proper escape into nature.

Originally built for Queen Mary, wife of King George V, this Highland hideaway was made for royalty. Dunecht Estates have lovingly restored it, blending modern comforts with timeless style.

Arrive by a winding private drive through tall pine trees. As you reach the water, the Queen’s Hut appears – tucked neatly into its surroundings. Iron benches and a table sit out front, just right for morning coffee or resting tired feet after a walk.

Inside, the cabin is elegant and warm. The kitchen is classic shaker style in soft blue, with a central island and stools for easy breakfasts or light suppers.

The sitting room is full of character. Think tweed armchairs, antlers on the wall, and framed portraits. There’s a big dining table, a wood burner, and a cosy window seat – the perfect spot for watching wildlife or enjoying a dram after dinner.

The master bedroom is stunning. A king-size bed, a chaise lounge, and a free-standing copper bath right by the window. Soak in the tub while listening to birdsong and watching the trees sway outside. Total privacy. Total peace.

The second bedroom has twin beds, which can be joined into a double. Both rooms have luxury linens, soft lighting, and the stillness you need for a deep night’s sleep.

Just beyond the garden gate, walking trails lead straight into the woods. A 15-minute stroll takes you to The Boat Inn – great for hearty food and a drink or two.

You’re near the Scottish Castle Trail and not far from the River Dee, where salmon fishing is available on the Birse Beat.

Whether you're here for history, wildlife or just the quiet, the Queen’s Hut is a royal retreat made for switching off.
