Eight suites, not a pod field
The Cadzow family built this in the winter of 2022 with local craftspeople, on farmland they have worked for three generations. Each suite stands on its own rather than in a row, with a fitted kitchenette holding an oven, a hob, and a fridge, so you can cook instead of driving out to eat.
Linen, a hairdryer, Highland Soap Company toiletries, logs, wifi, and free parking come with the suite, along with a piece of Scottish tablet on arrival. The owners do not list a television in any of the eight.

Good to know
- The ferry stops for the night. The last sailing from Seil is 10pm Monday to Thursday and 10.30pm on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday it runs hourly, 10am to 6pm.
- A lunchtime gap runs roughly 12.35 to 1.30 on weekdays, and drivers should be at the slip five minutes early.
- There is no pub on Luing, so plan on cooking in your own kitchenette.
- The Observatory, the communal kitchen and lounge, comes only with exclusive use of all eight suites.
- This is a working farm. Dogs go on leads near livestock, stay off the bed and sofa, and you bring their bed and bowl.
- Breakfast is a £30 hamper you order, not a meal that arrives. An extra bag of logs is £10, cash only.
- Insh and Sula are the two suites the owners call fully accessible. Grab rails are not fitted as standard.

Where it puts you
Luing is one of the Slate Islands, reached on the Cuan ferry across Cuan Sound from the Isle of Seil. It carries cars as well as foot passengers and is turn up and go rather than booked. WildLuing calls it the shortest crossing in Scotland, at about three minutes. A car is from £9.70 and a passenger from £1.00.
Without a car, Oban is the hub. West Coast Motors service 418 runs from the town out to the ferry, and the owners give Oban as 17 miles north. They put Fort William at an hour and a half, which brings Glencoe within a day, Glasgow at two and a half hours, and Edinburgh at three.

Frequently asked questions
Can we eat on the island?
There is no pub. The Atlantic Islands Centre at Cullipool serves locally sourced meals and runs Saturday bar nights. The owners sell a £30 breakfast hamper of homemade bread, granola, and Luing hen eggs.
Can we take the whole site for a group?
Yes. Exclusive use covers all eight suites, which is 16 guests, and adds the Observatory: a communal kitchen, a dining area, and a lounge over the bay. It has no bedrooms.
Are any of the suites step free?
Insh and Sula are the two the owners describe as fully accessible, being close to parking and on gradual paths.
What wildlife might we see?
The owners list otters, seals, gannets, sea eagles, golden eagles, puffins, and dolphins. They note the island has no rabbits, badgers, or rats.
What is there to do?
Wild swimming, for which the owners recommend a wetsuit most of the year, stone skimming off the slate beaches, kayaking through SeaKayak Oban, and diving in the marine protected area.
