Two suites in a church that stopped being one
St George's was built between 1886 and 1892 to a design by the Glasgow architect James Hamilton, and served as a church for most of a century before ending up as the church hall. It reopened in October 2024 as fourteen holiday flats, nine apartments and five suites, with the arched windows kept and the sea still at the front door.
This listing covers two of them, the pair the owners call the shorefront suites. Both sleep four in two en suite bedrooms with king size beds, and both look across Lamlash Bay to Holy Isle. Where they part company is the shape of the building. Suite 1 has the ground and first floors, its own front door, a glass Juliet balcony, and three bathrooms. Suite 12 is up at the spire end, smaller, and takes the arched windows with it, including a freestanding bath set at one of them.
The fit out is otherwise the same, down to the Smart TVs in the living area and in both bedrooms, and the island made toiletries.

Good to know
- Dogs are allowed in apartments 1 to 5 and 10 only, so Suite 12 is out. Two maximum, pre-approved, and never left alone.
- The deposit terms contradict themselves. The 25 per cent taken at booking is called non-refundable, while the cancellation table gives a full refund up to four weeks out. Ask which applies.
- A £300 damage deposit is pre-authorised three days before you arrive and released within three days of leaving.
- Suite 12 sits on the second and third floors. No lift is mentioned anywhere on the owners' site.
- Parking is nowhere on the owners' pages, although our listing ticks free parking. Confirm it.
- No minimum stay is published. Rates are quoted by the week, from £1,600 for these suites, while our listing records £255 a night.

Where it puts you
Lamlash sits on the east coast of Arran between Brodick and Whiting Bay, and the building is on the shore rather than near it. The golf course is a five minute walk by the owners' reckoning, and the small ferry to Holy Isle goes from Lamlash pier.
The Drift Inn is along Shore Road in the same village, and Arran Outdoor Centre runs sea kayaking and paddleboarding out of the bay. Getting here, the owners put the Ardrossan sailing to Brodick at 55 minutes, with Ardrossan a 45 minute drive from Glasgow, and note that sailings also run from Troon and from Claonaig.

Frequently asked questions
Which of the two suites should I take?
Suite 1 for the ground floor, your own entrance, and a third bathroom. Suite 12 for the arched windows and the bath set at one of them, if you do not mind two flights up.
Can I bring a dog?
Only to Suite 1. The terms allow dogs in apartments 1 to 5 and 10, up to two, agreed in advance, at a £25 cleaning charge per dog per stay.
What are the check in and check out times?
Check in is from 4pm and check out is by 11am.
What is in the kitchen?
An induction hob, a combi microwave oven, a fridge freezer, a dishwasher, a washer dryer, and a Quooker tap. Suite 12 adds a wine fridge.
How much is paid up front?
A quarter at booking, the balance six weeks before arrival, or the whole amount if you book inside six weeks. A £300 damage deposit is pre-authorised three days before you arrive.
