A cottage on the green, two minutes from the pier

Ivybank is not set back from the village, it is in it. The cottage faces the green and the beach, with Lamlash Bay and the whaleback of Holy Isle beyond, and the pier is a two minute walk. The bus that circles the island stops practically at the door.

Inside, the cottage runs to two bedrooms, a kitchen, a lounge, and a bathroom with a shower. The kitchen door opens onto an enclosed courtyard, and there is a back garden with a view. Four is the ceiling and a cot can be added, so it reads as a family cottage rather than a couple's bolthole.

Sherie and Andrew offer advice on walks and can arrange kayaking or mountain biking, and there is bike storage and drying space for the gear afterwards. The same house takes bed and breakfast guests, so the cottage is part of a working household rather than a key safe on an empty street.

  • The operator publishes no check in or check out times and no minimum stay. Ask when you book.
  • Rates are quoted by the week. This entry carries £125 a night, above the operator's own £550 to £650 a week, so confirm the price for your dates.

Lamlash has more of a village left than most places this size. There is a Post Office, a Co-op, a newsagent, a pharmacy, gift shops, three pubs, two tea rooms, and a hotel with a restaurant, so a week here does not need a daily drive to Brodick. The Drift Inn is on Shore Road, the same road as the cottage.

The bay in front of the green is a no take zone, which is why the seals, otters, and seabirds are as reliable as they are, and why divers come for it. The yacht club, the tennis courts, and an eighteen hole golf course are all in the village too, and Arran Outdoor Centre is in Lamlash for the kayaking and the biking the owners will point you at.
