On the mainland, a bridge away from Skye

Duirinish is a small village with a Thomas Telford bridge across the river in the middle of it and Highland cattle that roam it freely or graze the fields around. The pods are at Parkhead, and the owners place the village between Plockton and Kyle of Lochalsh.

The location is worth being plain about, because this stay is often found by people searching for pods on Skye. Kyle of Lochalsh is the mainland end of the Skye Bridge, so the island is a drive away over the water rather than the ground underfoot. The owners publish no drive time to it.

Both pods have a full sized double bed, a shower room, and a kitchenette with a two ring hob, sink, microwave, and fridge, plus the usual utensils and crockery. Each has a dining area, a sofa, Sky Glass TV, and free internet. Bedding and towels are provided, as are robes and slippers plus a separate set of towels for the hot tub. The isleofskye.com listing describes full panel glass fronts looking towards Applecross, Kishorn, and Plockton, which is where the pods take their names from, though the owners' own site does not describe the view.

Good to know

Two nights is the minimum from October to April, and three nights from May to September.
Dogs are welcome at £20 per dog per stay, must be kept on a lead, and must not be left unattended. The owners have a Labrador.
No smoking or vaping inside the pods.
Winter gales can make the hot tubs unsafe to use, so they are not guaranteed in that season.
The owners publish no check in or check out times. Agree them when you book.
The listing here shows parking on site, though the owners' own site does not mention parking.

Where it puts you

The request stop station in the village is on the Kyle line, which makes this one of the few Highland stays that does not need a car, whether you arrive by train or use it to get about once here. Plockton lies one way along the line and Kyle of Lochalsh the other, and the Croft Cafe is in the village itself.

The owners describe the range from here as running from Applecross in one direction to the Fairy Pools at Carbost on Skye in the other, which is a fair account of Lochalsh: the island on one side of the bridge and the Applecross peninsula up the coast on the other.

Are the hot tubs wood fired?

No. Each pod has its own private Hydropool hot tub. Some listings elsewhere call them wood fired, but the owners do not.

How far is the Isle of Skye?

The pods are on the mainland, in Duirinish, which the owners place between Plockton and Kyle of Lochalsh. Kyle of Lochalsh is the mainland end of the Skye Bridge. The owners publish no drive time.

Can we bring a dog?

Yes. Well behaved dogs are welcome at £20 per dog per stay, which covers the extra cleaning. They must be kept on a lead and not left unattended.

A 25% non refundable deposit secures the booking and the balance is due 90 days before arrival. Payment is by card, bank transfer, or PayPal.
