Glenwood Glamping Pod

One pod, not a field of them

Glenwood stands on the coast road between Arisaig and Morar, and the pod sits on the hillside above the house with its own access road and a parking space for one car beside the door. There is a single pod here, so nobody is pitched next to you. The owners run a bed and breakfast alongside it, which is where a party of more than two ends up.

Inside, the bed is the thing to settle before you book: a small double on a mezzanine floor, up a short ladder, with nothing at ground level. Below it is a kitchen area with a two ring electric cooker, a microwave, a fridge, a kettle, a toaster, and a coffee machine, with basic cooking equipment, crockery, and cutlery supplied. The bathroom is a full one, with a toilet, a sink, and a proper sized shower, which is more than most pods this size carry.

Outside there is a seating area with a barbecue and a fire, and the ground drops away towards the sea. Camusdarach is ten minutes on foot: white sand, clear water, and a view out to Skye and the small isles of Rum and Eigg. It is the beach from Local Hero.

Where it puts you

Mallaig is five minutes up the road and is a working fishing port before it is anything else, with the ferries to Skye, Knoydart, and the Small Isles leaving from the same pier. The Mallaig Circuit walk starts in the town and looks over Loch Nevis. Arisaig is the other way along the coast road, about the same distance again.

Inland, the road and the railway run together through Glenfinnan towards Fort William, where the viaduct at the head of Loch Shiel carries the steam train through the summer.
