A house arranged around one view
The layout is the thing here. The main floor is a single open room, with sofas, a small dining table, a kitchen along one side and a log burner in the middle of it. Above that, on a mezzanine rather than behind its own door, sits the king bed, with a window seat and a Juliette balcony that opens on the sea and the mountains behind it.
The bathroom is the other half of the argument. His and hers sinks, a rainshower and a freestanding bath, a large window looking the same way as the bedroom, and sliding doors that open straight onto the decking where the hot tub is. Bath, tub and view are effectively one room. Outside, the deck carries seating and a bbq and fire pit as well.
Rebecca and Matt, who own Skuyö, are direct about who it is for. Two adults, no children, no dogs, babies by arrangement only. They leave breakfast essentials and a welcome pack so the first morning does not start with a drive to a shop.
Good to know

- Host Unusual, which also advertises the house, lists arrivals on Mondays and Fridays and a three night minimum. The owners' own site states neither, so confirm both with them directly.

Where it puts you
Isleornsay is on the east coast of the Sleat peninsula, the green, wooded end of Skye that most visitors drive past on the way north. Staying here means the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale is a genuine alternative to the bridge, and it puts the quiet half of the island on your doorstep rather than the queue at the Storr.
Am Praban, the bar at the Eilean Iarmain hotel, is a short stroll down the hill, which the owners rightly treat as a rare thing on Skye. The nearest shop is An Crùbh at a mile, with Armadale Stores at seven, near Armadale Castle and its gardens. If you would rather not drive the single track roads yourself, the owners note that car hire is limited to Inverness or Fort William, and a driver such as Explore Skye covers the island from Luib.
