Seven lodges, and one hot tub between them
Kings Caves is a park of seven lodges above Machrie, on the west coast of Arran, where the road runs between moor and shore. Each lodge has its own decking facing the pond. What the park shares sits apart: a spa hot tub, a fire pit and barbecue area, and a car charger.
There are two kinds of lodge. A Luxury Glamping Lodge takes two adults and two children, with a king size bed, a sofa bed, and an en suite shower room. An Executive Family Glamping Lodge takes up to five and adds bunk beds. Both carry the same mini kitchen, Wi-Fi, a Smart TV, and a Bluetooth sound system, and bed linen and towels are provided.
The owners built the park around its footprint: hydro electric generated electricity, hot water from an air source heat pump, and sheep's wool insulation. Food is handled on site too. The Bothy sells breakfast bags and cook kits, and Katie at the Shiskine Tearoom delivers hot food to the park daily at 7pm if you order before five.

Good to know
- The hot tub is communal, not private to your lodge, and the lodges page says extra charges apply to it and to the barbecue area.
- There is no oven. The mini kitchen runs to a hob and a microwave.
- Check in and check out times are nowhere on the owners' site, so agree them when booking.
- Rates and any minimum stay are unpublished too. Our listing records £155 a night, worth confirming.
- Our listing calls the site dog friendly. The owners' pages set out no dogs policy, so ask first.
- The eco page calls the hot water air source in one line and geothermal in another. Lodge heating is not specified.

Where it puts you
Machrie is on the west coast of Arran, the side most day trippers never reach, and what the park is nearest to is the walking. The King's Cave circular, which the place takes its name from, is five kilometres with 169 metres of climb by the owners' reckoning, and Machrie Moor is 4.2 kilometres. The owners list twenty routes in all, up to Goat Fell and the Witches Step, the ground the walking on the Isle of Arran guide covers.
Machrie Bay is the nearest golf course and the owners put it within walking distance, with Shiskine close by. Brodick, across the island, has the shops and Brodick Castle above the bay. The park stands on the main island bus route, and the owners suggest taking it rather than driving.

Is the hot tub private to each lodge?
No. There is one communal spa hot tub for guests, and the lodges page says extra charges apply to it and to the barbecue area.
Can you cook properly in the lodge?
