Three coach houses on a hundred-year-old farm

The farm at Priorletham has been in the same family for close to a century, and the three coach houses are the restored steading buildings on it. They are called the Castle, the Dukes and the Eden, after the courses down the road, and each sleeps four in two bedrooms with a fully fitted kitchen and its own outdoor seating.

The detail that separates this from every other farm conversion near St Andrews is the ground floor. Each coach house has a bedroom and a bathroom on the level, and the owners describe them as wheelchair accessible, which is close to unobtainable in this price range in this part of Fife.

The other one is the activity barn, shared between the three and containing a bale tunnel, badminton and table tennis. On a wet afternoon with children, that barn is the difference between a holiday and a stand-off.

Booked as a set, the three take twelve, which makes this a sensible option for a golf group or an extended family who want to be together without being in the same building.

St Andrews is five minutes away and is three towns in one: the golf, the university and the ruins. The Old Course and the six other Links Trust courses run along the West Sands, and the beach itself is two miles of flat sand that most people know from the opening of Chariots of Fire without knowing where it is.

The cathedral and the castle are at the other end of the town, both worth an hour. Beyond that, the East Neuk villages, Crail, Anstruther and Elie, are twenty to forty minutes down the coast, and the Fife Coastal Path connects the lot.
