Lodge on Loch Lomond, Loch Lomond, Luss, G83 8PA

A hotel with the loch at the bottom of the lawn

Luss sits on the western shore just off the A82, and the Lodge is on the beach at the edge of the village rather than up behind it. Colquhoun's Restaurant and Lounge has floor to ceiling windows onto the water, there are benches out on the sand, and the jetty stays in all year, so a boat trip starts at the bottom of the garden.

The 48 rooms come in ten grades split between the original Lodge and the Munro Lodge next door, and the differences matter. A Glen Luss room looks sideways at the beach from the first floor, up two flights with no lift. A Deluxe Corbett has a glass fronted balcony over the water.

One thing to be clear about: AmberRose is a treatment and thermal spa, not a leisure club. The hotel says plainly that there is no pool, plunge pool or jacuzzi. What there is: two treatment rooms using Germaine de Capuccini, a thermal suite with steam and two saunas, and a Rasul mud chamber for two.

Location

Where it puts you

The village is a short walk along the shore, and the Loch Lomond Faerie Trail starts from Luss General Store, which fills an hour with children. Luss parish church is on the same street, and the hotel will marry you there or on the beach.

South at Balloch, Loch Lomond Shores has the aquarium and the pier. The rest of Loch Lomond opens up from the jetty, with Cruise Loch Lomond running hop on and off trips to the islands.
